Lighting up the Banknote Museum
On 25.11.2023 the Banknote Museum of Ionian Bank in the historical centre of the city of Corfu was lit up in orange, to mark the International Day for the Elimination of Violence against Women, as designated by the UN.
The building was lit up following an invitation by the Corfu Soroptimist Club, with the aim of sending a message and raising awareness against violent behaviour towards women and girls.
Since 2009, the Soroptimist Clubs throughout Europe have been lighting up buildings and monuments in city centres in orange to honour 25 November. The orange colour symbolises a brighter, more optimist future, free from gender violence.
The lighting of the Banknote Museum of Ionian Bank was attended by:
- Panagiota Tzane, Deputy Mayor for European Programmes and Digital Policy of the Municipality of Central Corfu and Diapontian Islands
- Konstantinos Christopoulos, Head of the Museum
- Members and friends of the Corfu Soroptimist Club
